Our Story

Danna Demetre
Our Founder

In 1996, Danna Demetre invited a group of women to meet weekly in her home to discuss effective ways to reach the women of San Diego with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.  After a year of praying and planning, the vision for Women of Purpose was cast to almost 100 Christian women from over 20 churches in San Diego County.  Danna challenged the women of faith to look at their community with spiritual eyes and realize that every woman falls into one of two categories:

  • She is saved and ultimately goes to heaven.
  • She is not saved and would perish for all eternity if she did not accept Christ.

Danna encouraged each woman to pray for and invite unsaved friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors to a Women of Purpose outreach event.  The events, generally held at a local hotel were designed to be appealing to those who may be uncomfortable in church.  They purposely lack the “religiosity” the secular world does not understand.  Yet, there is no compromise when it comes to sharing the love of God and the clear presentation of the gospel.

In January of 2022, Danna felt led to pass the leadership role of Women of Purpose to her long-time friend, Diane Lowery.  This move would allow her to concentrate more fully on her own business and ministry.

Diane Lowery
President

Co-founding Rock Steady Sisters, a women’s Bible group in 2008, Diane Lowery committed to studying the entire Bible and sharing with other women the things she had learned.  Book after book, chapter after chapter she as well as the women who were traveling with her realized that their lives were changing for the better as they grew closer to the Lord by applying biblical principles to the many sets of circumstances in their lives.

With a prayerful desire to bring these studies to a greater audience accepting this new position with Women of Purpose was an easy decision to make.  After gathering a solid team and considering their intentions and mission statement a new name was given to this beautiful ministry – Women at the Well.
